Conduction can occur within a single object when there are different temperatures in different parts.

Different temperatures

Conduction is the transfer of heat within a material from regions of higher temperature to regions of lower temperature through the interactions of particles. When one part of an object is hotter than another, the energetic particles in the hot region collide with neighbors and pass some of that energy along. This energy flow continues until temperatures even out, which is why a temperature difference inside the object enables conduction.

That’s why having different temperatures is the best choice here. Colors, textures, and densities don’t themselves drive conduction—color can affect how much heat is absorbed, and texture or density can influence how easily heat moves, but the fundamental requirement for conduction is a temperature gradient.
